About San Diego Clippers

San Diego Clippers

The San Diego Clippers were a professional basketball team based in San Diego, California, competing in the NBA from 1978 to 1984. Originally founded as the Buffalo Braves in 1970, the franchise relocated to San Diego in 1978, rebranding as the Clippers. During their tenure in San Diego, the Clippers played their home games at the San Diego Sports Arena. In 1984, the team moved to Los Angeles, becoming the Los Angeles Clippers.

In March 2024, the Los Angeles Clippers announced that their G League affiliate would relocate to Oceanside, California, and rebrand as the San Diego Clippers, starting play at the new Frontwave Arena for the 2024–2025 season.

This marks the return of the Clippers’ organization to the San Diego area, reconnecting with the community where the NBA team played from 1978–1984.
